As a new alternative to traditional cigarettes, this is a promising market. British American Tobacco, as the largest competitor of Philip Morris International, sold 3.3 billion cigarettes in the first half of the year, up 85% year-on-year; the company's total cigarette and THP fell 2.2% to 348.3 billion.

Philip Morris's move is also the latest move by tobacco manufacturers to take the lead in this market.

According to the company, certain features of British American Tobacco's product Glo infringe on the technology involved in Philip Morris International's two patents in Japan. To this end, Philip Morris International seeks 100 million yen ($896,160) in damages and a permanent ban on Glo products.

A British American Tobacco spokesman said that it is clear that the company does not agree with this statement and question the validity of Philip Morris International's patents based on the case.

The growth of heating non-combustible products in the Japanese market has begun to slow down. Philip Morris International, British American Tobacco and Japan Tobacco Co. have stepped up their sales in the Japanese market by drastically cutting prices, while trying to push them to countries around the world.
